Fascia Stretch Therapy vs StretchLab: What’s the difference?

Fascia Stretch Therapy is customizable and beneficial for all ages and bodies.

What is Stretch Therapy?

Fascia Stretch Therapy (aka Stretch Therapy) treats the whole person, not just a body part. It is pain-free and uses constant circulatory, gently oscillating movements of traction and stabilization to decompress joints and expand space in the soft tissues. Countless clients have reported that in just one session they have a reduction in their pain, and their posture and mobility in their joints have significantly improved. It is performed safely and pain-free where each session is catered to and customized for the individual’s specific needs.

Research has shown benefits of stretching fascia. Recent clinical trials indicate that fascial lumbar stretching can improve “the flexibility of the hamstring musculature”¹ and studies on fascial tissue in sports medicine have shown that “stretching of fascial tissues can promote resolution of inflammation both in vivo and in vitro.”²

What is the difference between Stretch Therapy and StretchLab?

Stretch Therapy at Move With Studio offers:

1) Personalized Sessions

  • Tailored to each client’s individual needs

  • Takes place in a tranquil, private setting

  • Gentle, circulatory, pain-free assisted stretches

  • In comparison, StretchLab is mostly static assisted stretches, pre-set routines, and held in a large room with other clients being stretched close by

2) Qualified Professionals

  • 80+ hours of training

  • 5 day training program for 3 levels of certification

  • In comparison, Stretchlab is only 16 hours of training and can be done in a weekend

3) Continuing Education

  • Online and in-person advanced and specialized courses

  • Yearly requirement to maintain certification

  • In comparison, StretchLab has no requirement for this

Assisted stretching methods, similar to what is offered at StretchLab, are performed with the goal of altering the muscle tissue and fascia with enough force to produce a lengthening effect in order to gain increased mobility. People may initially feel this as being productive, but eventually will have limited results, or even incur a new injury.

Assisted stretching is a rapidly growing industry with many modalities and new franchises opening regularly, especially in the Bay Area. While public demand to get stretched by a professional is robust, the cookie-cutter approach by minimally trained staff, like that of StretchLab and other chain franchises, is not as effective and does not treat the body as a whole. Fascia Stretch Therapy at Move With Studio is performed by therapists who have over 80+ hours of in-classroom learning and hands-on training, as well as being certified Pilates and Personal Trainers from reputable international organizations. They are also required to have ongoing continuing education to maintain their Stretch Therapy certifications.

At Move With Studio, clients find lasting change in their mobility, plus an overall feeling of wellbeing, confidence, and ease, which is the capstone to personal and professional transformation. Our stretch therapy sessions are held in a private, tranquil room called the Annex, located upstairs just above the studio.

I have found FST to be a powerful rehabilitation and training technique which has improved my flexibility and strength, enhanced my athletic performance and eliminated back and hip pain, so common in golfers. As a physician, I know the success of therapy is highly dependent upon the skills and knowledge of the practitioner, which is why I entrust my care to Kelsey. She is professional, compassionate and extremely talented. Thanks Kelsey, for helping me perform my best in tournament golf!
