Fascia Stretch Therapy

Fascia Stretch Therapy (or stretch therapy) is a type of dynamic body work. It is a similar experience to massage because they are both soft tissue manipulation and the client remains relaxed on a massage table. Stretch therapy targets fascia, the most prevalent connective tissue in the body, and supports every aspect of movement  — muscles, tendons, organs, ligaments, and nerves. And like myofascial therapy, it can increase flexibility, reduce aches and pains, and improve range of motion. At Move With, our stretch therapy sessions are held in the Annex, a private room above our studio that allows for more privacy and a sense of calm.

Benefits of getting stretch therapy:

  • Gentle, pain-free stretches for your entire fascia system

  • Support for every aspect of movement

  • Private, tranquil room for relaxation

  • Leaving your clothes on during session

  • Beneficial for all ages and bodies

Many clients find stretch therapy to be helpful for conditions like frozen shoulder (aka adhesive capsulitis), chronic lower back pain, or neck and shoulder tension. Unlike the stretching that occurs in yoga, where certain muscles have to remain active in order to stretch opposing muscle groups, the stretch that occurs during stretch therapy is under a fully relaxed body, aiding in a deeper stretch and tuning in with the parasympathetic nervous system. It is incredibly gentle, and sessions are pain free. It can aid in faster recovery from injury by improving blood flow to muscles, and for the same reason may result in improved athletic performance.

*All Stretch Therapy appointments are 50 minutes.

  • I have found FST to be a powerful rehabilitation and training technique which has improved my flexibility and strength, enhanced my athletic performance and eliminated back and hip pain, so common in golfers. As a physician, I know the success of therapy is highly dependent upon the skills and knowledge of the practitioner, which is why I entrust my care to Kelsey. She is professional, compassionate and extremely talented. Thanks Kelsey, for helping me perform my best in tournament golf!

What to Expect During a Stretch Therapy Session

Stretch Therapy FAQ's

  • Please come as hydrated as possible. Consuming at least half of your weight in ounces of water per day is necessary to keep your joints lubricated. Drinking water or consuming water with electrolytes before a session will help enhance the results of the session.

  • All Stretch Therapy appointments will be offered solely in the Annex. Having a quiet, private space is a major upgrade to the Stretch Therapy experience for all clients. It creates an environment where each individual can fully relax into their body, allow their nervous system to drop down, and receive the stretch in the most restorative way.

  • Please wear comfortable clothes, i.e, t-shirt and sweatpants or leggings. If you are coming from a workout please change into a fresh set of clothes. Our therapists should be able to move your legs and your arms without restriction.

  • No oils or lotions are used during stretch therapy.

  • You can go about your normal day after a session, but we recommend drinking plenty of water to flush out toxins, similar to recommendations after a massage. Rest is also beneficial, but not necessary after getting stretch therapy.

  • You can workout before or after a fascial stretch therapy session. Our recommendation is to work out first then stretch after.

  • Your stretch session should be pain free. There will be moments during the session where you will feel a deep stretch, but it should not be painful. Please notify your therapist if you are feeling any pain.
