June is Scoliosis Awareness Month

June marks Scoliosis Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about a condition that affects millions of people worldwide. Scoliosis is the abnormal curvature of the spine that can develop during childhood or later in life due to degeneration or other factors. While many people live with mild scoliosis without symptoms, others experience pain, reduced mobility, and postural challenges that impact daily life.

This month, at Move With Studio, we are excited to provide an opportunity to learn about the condition, share resources, and explore movement-based approaches that can help people with scoliosis live more comfortably and confidently.

Scolio-Pilates at Move With Studio

We're proud to be one of the few studios in the Bay Area offering specialized Scolio-Pilates sessions. Unlike traditional Pilates, which assumes a symmetrical spine, Scolio-Pilates is specifically designed for bodies with scoliosis.

This specialized approach addresses the unique muscular imbalances and movement patterns that scoliosis creates. Through carefully tailored exercises, Scolio-Pilates focuses on:

  • Strengthening weak, overstretched muscles while releasing tight, compressed areas

  • Improving spinal mobility and core stability

  • Enhancing postural awareness and alignment

  • Reducing pain and increasing functional movement

Each Scolio-Pilates session is individualized based on your specific curve pattern and needs, making it appropriate for adolescents and adults with varying degrees of scoliosis.

Rachel has been teaching Pilates since 2014 and brings a thoughtful, supportive approach to both group and private sessions. Her work focuses on using movement to reduce pain, improve function, and help you better understand your body.

As an Authorized Scolio-Pilates® Practitioner, she offers scoliosis-specific sessions tailored to your unique curve. She approaches the body with curiosity and care, guiding you to move in a way that feels safe, supported, and empowering.
